These tips are mainly for the grade 9's, but everyone should know them. So here are the best 10.
1. ALWAYS bring you own gum to school, everyone loves gum but if you don't then bring mints or whatever. Don't tell anyone you have gum because you will be attacked. Do not share your gum, but if you do be very secretive with it. Trust me you only make that mistake once.
2. I'm saving you from embarrassment when I say, that it would be in you best interest to know the school cheers. Trust me you will need to know the cheers, if you don't know " Jacob is hot to go say H.O.T.T.O.G.O ah oo hot to go ah oo hot to go." and, " 1 we are the hawks, 2 a little bit louder, 3 I still can't hear you, 4 more more more." Then you do now, your welcome.
3. Always dress up for spirit day. Our school colours are blue, grey and white, you'd have to put more of an effort in to not dress in spirit wear then to just put on blue jeans. Also if you don't dress in spirit wear then you will be the odd man out, because everyone else will be decked out in blue and white. And you get easy homeroom points for your class.
4. Make sure you know where all the different offices are and what there for. Attendance office is where you go if your late to class or missed a class and you teacher tells you to go get it validated. This is also where you go to sign out if your leaving. The sac office is where you would find Mrs. Pauze to go get your student card, yearbook, sports locker and if your in leadership that's where you go. And finally the main office, if your a baddie then you go there.
5. DO NOT stop walk in the hallways, and always walk on the right side. You make people very angry and some might yell at you. Instead of stopping everyone either merge to the wall with your friend to talk to them or just text them later. And I get it you want to be apart of the hallway talk while you walk to class with your friends, but do not make a line that is more than 3 people long across that hall, other people have to walk to you know. Also if you are a skilled texter then you can text and walk in the hallway at the same time, but if your not then get to class earlier and text when you get there.
6. Definitely know where the working and good water fountains are, first you will have to know your way around the school. I am going to help you out with the information, English, French, and 1 from the business hall do not work. The best tasting ones are both gym ones and the one outside the phoenix room by the attendance office. The coldest ones are the east and west gym ones, and the gym ones are the only ones that have water bottle fill up stations.
7. Always have money in your backpack, you can thank me later for this one. Because when there's poutine, mac n' cheese, or fries in the cafeteria you will want some so you will need money. Or when your friends unexpectedly want to go to Tim Horton's, Mcdonald's, Zehrs or any other place for lunch you can happily say yes. So always have 5 or 10 dollars in your bag.
8. Sit only where you belong at lunch. During the first week or 2 of school people are still trying to find space to sit at lunch. Here's a tip, if you saw people sitting there yesterday and they are older than you then don't go and take the table. But one things for sure, DO NOT under any circumstances go into the hub, that's where all the grade 12's sit. And if you don't think that's right well suck it up, wait until you get to grade 12 because you will want a space where just you and your friends sit.
9. Watch sporting events, considering you go to Jacob you should already know that we are known for having very good sports teams, especially football. I'm not saying you have to go to ever single game, but you should at least go to the kickoff and homecoming. Because it's fun to stay out late with your friends eating good, warm food while cheering for your school. I will be there!
10. Be active in the school, join a sports team whether it be football, volley ball, soccer, or tennis anything that you want we have it all. We even have a dodge ball tournament that goes on every year in memory of Mr. Hat that past away. But okay let's say your not into sports, you can join art club, science club, help out with tournament, assemblies or other events. At the end of your high school experience when look back and ask yourself, did I make the most out of high school? There should be no hesitation when you say YES!
If you follow all these tips, then I promise your years at JHSS will be the best years ever.
