As many of you know, schools such as our very own Jacob Hespeler as well as plenty of other schools all around are slowly starting to find ways to use technology in our benefit.
Many schools are using chromebooks for the school work, students and teachers liked them. So now we JHSS, are now one of a few pilot schools that get to test the experiment of giving a whole grade there own chromebooks for the entire year. So all the grade 9s have received their chromebooks for the year. This will benefit our school and the students because, it teaches them responsibility and keeps them interested. This will be good for the students because, if they don’t have a computer at home to do school work on then now they do. So work will be better because, students won’t have to rush to get their work done in class and now can take their time and do some of their work at home. Thinking about more of the environmental side of things, more trees will be saved because there isn’t need for a lot of paper if these test runs go smoothly. And soon school boards will change the curriculum to almost on laptops.
Chromebooks aren’t the only way for schools to get more involved in technology. Things like playing kahoot with the class lets students be on their devices, yet also tests them on their understanding of the topic. Letting the students listen to music on their devices while doing work, is also another way that teachers can except phones and other devices into the classroom. Teachers can’t just dismiss devices for the class and forget that they are there because, many students will just go on their devices anyways during class and not pay attention. I believe by even just letting students check their phones a few times during class, would be acceptable for many students and they will focus more and I think students will be more successful in class.
We are already doing these things as well as using social media such as twitter to let students know what’s happening at our school for example, this twitter account would let students know when activities such as. Dances, sports events, spirit days, etc. and just reminding us of things to do like bring in money for a ticket to the dance or when to pick up yearbooks, or that were going to have special food in the cafeteria or foyer at lunch.
There are more benefits rather than deficits with this idea. This is why if not already, schools should get more involved with technology like Jacob Hespeler Secondary School has done which advances students learning.
